Custom Archive Retrieval System Designed for Ergonomics and Efficiency
When you’re handling high volumes of archived materials, efficiency and ergonomics aren’t just “nice to have”—they’re essential. This custom archive retrieval system, designed for a large archive operation, is a great example of how thoughtful material handling equipment can streamline workflows while reducing employee strain and improving productivity.
At first glance, this custom warehouse cart setup looks like a single system, but it’s actually two independent components engineered to work seamlessly together—or separately depending on the task at hand.
Built for Flexibility: Two Units, One System
1. Mobile Picking Platform
The first component is a rolling, elevated picking platform designed for stability and ease of movement in archie and warehouse environments.
6-caster configuration for smooth mobility and weight distribution
Guard rails and latched entry for added safety while elevated
Diamond plate platform for secure footing
Under-platform storage for a removable height extension
For shorter users or varying shelf heights, the system includes a removable platform insert that can be placed on top to increase working height. When not in use, it stores neatly on the lower shelf—no extra equipment to track or store elsewhere.
2. Integrated Conveyor Cart
The second component is where efficiency really comes into play: a rolling conveyor cart that attaches directly to the platform.
Gravity roller conveyor allows boxes to glide smoothly
Aligned height with platform for easy transfer
Mobile and detachable for flexible use across workflows
As items are picked, the operator on the platform can simply place boxes onto the conveyor. From there, they slide down to a second team member—eliminating unnecessary lifting, twisting, or climbing.
Why This Design Works
This system was built with two core goals in mind: reduce physical strain and increase throughput.
Improved ergonomics: Minimizes repetitive lifting and awkward movements
Faster workflows: Enables a two-person system without bottlenecks
Adaptability: Units can be used together or independently depending on the task
Space-conscious design: Built-in storage and compact footprint
In archive environments where accuracy, care, and volume all matter, small inefficiencies can add up quickly. This setup helps teams move faster without sacrificing safety.
Designed Around Real Workflows
The biggest difference between a standard cart and a custom solution like this comes down to one thing: how it’s actually used on the floor.
This wasn’t built in a vacuum—it was designed around real picking processes, real employee feedback, and real operational challenges. The result is a system that feels intuitive from day one.
Custom Solutions, Built to Last
At Rol-Away, over 70% of our carts are custom built to meet specific operational needs. Whether it’s archive retrieval systems, warehouse picking carts, retail replenishment carts, or conveyor-assisted material handling equipment, we design solutions that fit the workflow instead of forcing workflows to fit standard equipment.
If your team is working around inefficiencies, there’s usually a better solution.
